1. Purpose

Australian IMG Academy (AIM) helps International Medical Graduates prepare for the Australian Medical Council (AMC) examinations and the other examinations and assessments on their chosen registration pathway. AIM is committed to providing clear and fair information about refunds, transfers and access to its courses.

This policy explains how to request a refund, access extension, pathway transfer or help with an AIM course, question bank or other learning material. Please read it together with the course description before you make a purchase. You will be asked to read and accept this policy at checkout.

2. What this policy covers

This policy applies to fees paid directly to AIM for courses and learning products on each registration pathway, including:

  • AMC CAT MCQ preparation courses.
  • AMC Clinical Examination preparation courses.
  • Preparation courses for other examinations and assessments required on a doctor’s chosen pathway (for example, the Competent Authority or Specialist pathways – confirm against the course catalogue).
  • Pathway bundles or packages that combine more than one course.
  • Online question banks, practice examinations and mock examinations.
  • Lectures and learning resources.

This policy applies to AIM’s fees only. Fees paid to the AMC or another organisation are subject to that organisation’s own policies.

3. Your rights under Australian Consumer Law

Our products and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law.

If a service has a major problem, you may be entitled to cancel and receive a refund for the unused part, or to keep the service and receive compensation for the reduction in value. Depending on the circumstances, other remedies may also be available.

If a problem is minor, AIM will have an opportunity to fix it within a reasonable time. If we cannot or do not fix it within a reasonable time, you may be entitled to another remedy.

Nothing in this policy limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. The change-of-mind conditions below do not restrict those rights.

4. Change of mind refunds

AIM offers the following change-of-mind refund for its courses:

Your circumstancesRefund
Request within 7 calendar days of purchase and access has not been activatedFull refund of the amount paid
Access has been activatedA change-of-mind refund is generally not available
Request more than 7 calendar days after purchase and access has not been activatedA change-of-mind refund is generally not available

Access is considered activated when you first sign in to, view, download or otherwise access the purchased course or learning materials. Receiving a welcome email or login details alone does not constitute activation.

4.1 Pathway bundles

If you purchased a bundle and have activated one or more courses in it, you may request a refund for the courses you have not activated, provided you ask within 7 calendar days of purchase. The refund is the standalone price of each unactivated course, less its share of any bundle discount.

5. Changing your registration pathway

Doctors sometimes change registration pathway after enrolling, for example from the Standard Pathway to the Competent Authority Pathway. If this happens, AIM may transfer the amount you paid as credit towards a course that suits your new pathway, instead of a refund.

A pathway transfer may be requested within 30 calendar days of purchase and is generally available where you have completed no more than 25% of the original course. If the new course costs more, you pay the difference. If it costs less, the balance is held as credit towards another AIM course.

6. Problems accessing your course or materials

If you experience a technical problem, please contact AIM so we can investigate and assist you. Depending on the circumstances and your legal rights, a suitable solution may include:

  • Restoring your access.
  • Correcting a technical issue.
  • Extending your access period.

Please provide a description of the problem and, where possible, the date it occurred and any error message you received.

7. Exceptional circumstances

AIM understands that unexpected events may affect your ability to use your learning materials. We may consider an access extension, partial refund or another suitable arrangement in exceptional circumstances, including:

  • Serious illness or injury.
  • Death or serious illness of an immediate family member.
  • A significant personal emergency or trauma.
  • A natural disaster or other event outside your reasonable control.

Please contact AIM as soon as reasonably possible. We may request reasonable supporting evidence, such as a medical certificate or other relevant document. Supporting documents are handled confidentially, used only to assess your request and stored securely in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

If the AMC changes, postpones or cancels your examination date, AIM will extend your course access to cover your new examination date on request.

Each request will be considered individually. AIM will communicate its decision and reasons in writing.

8. Examination results and registration outcomes

AIM provides educational resources and examination preparation. Purchasing an AIM product does not guarantee:

  • A pass in an AMC examination.
  • Eligibility for an AMC examination.
  • Medical registration in Australia.
  • Employment, a clinical placement or entry into a workplace-based assessment program.

A change-of-mind refund is not available solely because a participant does not pass an examination or obtain a desired registration or employment outcome. This does not affect any rights relating to a problem with an AIM product or service.

9. Fees paid to the Australian Medical Council

The Australian Medical Council is a separate organisation. Its examination and assessment fees are separate from AIM’s fees. AIM cannot approve or promise a refund of fees paid directly to the AMC. Candidates should contact the AMC and follow its current withdrawal and refund procedures.

The AMC has different refund arrangements for MCQ authorisations, clinical examinations and workplace-based assessment. Eligibility may depend on the circumstances, timing and supporting evidence. AIM does not automatically apply the AMC’s refund percentages to AIM products.

Please include:

  • Your full name.

11. Refund payments

Approved refunds will generally be returned to the original payment method. If this is not possible, AIM will discuss an alternative secure payment method with you.

AIM aims to process approved refunds within 10 business days of notifying you of the decision. The time taken for the funds to appear in your account may depend on your bank or payment provider.

12. Complaints and review

If you are not satisfied with a decision, you can ask for it to be reviewed by writing to AIM within 30 days of the decision. Your request will be reviewed by the Operations Manager and, if it is still unresolved, by the CEO. AIM will respond in writing within 10 business days.

If you are still not satisfied, you can contact your state or territory consumer protection agency (for example, NSW Fair Trading) or the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC). This does not affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

13. Policy updates

AIM may update this policy from time to time. The policy and purchase terms provided to you when you purchase a product will apply to that purchase, subject to your legal rights and any agreed changes.
