Contact usIf you hold an overseas specialist qualification, the Specialist Pathway is the route to specialist registration in Australia, through an assessment by the relevant specialist college.
At present this pathway is led by the relevant specialist college. The college assesses whether you are comparable to an Australian-trained specialist, and may require supervised practice, upskilling or exams before you gain specialist registration or fellowship.
In mid-2026 the Medical Board consulted on making Ahpra and the Board the single entry point. Colleges would still assess qualifications, training, experience and competence, but would advise a Board-led registration process. Specialist IMGs could also work towards specialist registration and college fellowship at the same time.
Final outcomes may have been published since. Check the current process before applying.
